Today I felt like drawing.

The first thing that came to my mind was the circle thingy that our female boss made us to do a couple of weeks ago. The “circle thingy” (which reminds me of the mandala) is an exercise in color therapy, and your drawing is supposed to show your current preoccupations and mental state.

Back then I drew a sunset at the beach because all I could think of was the out-of-town trip with college BFFs that I couldn’t go to.

Today my circle contained sunflowers, grass, and trees. Right then I knew I had to go to the uni. ‘Course it is the uni.

CHAPTER 25: THE ARYAN SHOPKEEPER

Liesel and Rudy bought a piece of candy using a Pfennig (“penny”) they had found on the street. To split the candy fairly, they agreed to get 10 sucks each and that they would take turns on sucking. Rudy thought Liesel was cheating and was taking an extra suck. They argued for a bit — profanely as usual. Then, finally, Liesel passed the candy to Rudy.

“This is great, isn’t it?”

“It sure is, Saumensch.”

Guess who? :)

After I had seen so many wonderful and witty crossovers on deviantArt, I wanted to do a crossover art too. I had sketched this one long, long ago, but I felt to lazy to paint. Mehe. Then I bounced back somehow and gave it a quick job now.

There are other sketches on my sketchpad that I plan to paint.

Also, I am not yet done with Studio Ghibli movies. I am watching Satoshi Kon (Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers), Mamoru Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time), and Makoto Shinkai (5 Centimeters Per Second) animated films too.

I can think of one thousand and one ways that The Legend of Korra’ first season could have gone. I think there is A LOT that could have been done to the characterization and conflicts and the “larger picture” of Korra, which all pale compared to those of Aang’s. I do get that the Avatar staff is trying something new with Korra and I have read somewhere what their plans for the second season are, which really sound good (Let’ see execution then), but …

I don’t know why I even bothered to do this when I’m swamped with schoolwork. Not even sponsored. But heck, I’m really in love with Ate Vicky’s Pan-Tea! It tastes like rainbows and much better than some of those overpriced milk teas around. It’s at UP Diliman, a green food cart between College of Architecture and UP Press Bookstore. My friend is having her birthday on the 29th. We only see each other once a year, still we remain very close friends and I really appreciate that. And because she said my drawings are cute, I’m gonna give her this doodle! Hope she likes it. :3

Was feeling really lonely last month that I bought a planting kit (made in China) and tried growing a plant (“European vanilla”), so I can have another living creature in my room besides myself. No plant grew, but a culture of bacteria did.

This is my third output, and the most challenging so far. Let me tell you the whys:

This strip was based on a true event. More often than not, your memory fails you.
The concept always changed. I had a good concept of what I will be doing before I started doing digital, but it changed halfway. And it kept on changing through out.
I don’t have a drawing tablet. I sketch first on paper, take a picture of it with a camera (because I don’t have a scanner), then do the outlining and coloring on the computer using a mouse. Too much work.
To cartoonize real people and make them recognizable and consistent throughout the strip, mannerisms included, is serious business.
There is a technique in cutting lines, which make a decent punch line — which ultimately determine how many frames the strip will have.
It’s easier to outline from scratch than to alter existing outlines. Still, I had to alter existing lines because that’s what makes the characters consistently-looking.
The more I take time doing an illustration, the more I overthink about it, the more edits I do.

I had a close encounter with one and caught him red-handed. I wanted to capture the moment, so I drew it. There is a lot of lines to this drawing and it was difficult. After the linework, I felt too tired to do the coloring, so here. Mehe.

Transformation according to occasion.

This is my first output out of my efforts to self-study drawing and digital illustration. I think no one deserves the first illustration more than yourself. :)
